Infertility Support and Discussion
How soon did you start your 2nd IVF cycle after the 1st one failed? Was it immediately or did you wait some?
I'm starting immediately but immediately means after one period because for my protocol i start lupron on day 21. And, after a failed cycle my numbers were all fine on that day 2/3 bloodwork -- i think the numbers have to be fine or they might make you wait. Not sure what not fine is either but that's my guess.
Is there any advantages to starting immediately?
possibly getting a baby sooner....

Most practices prefer (some mandate) that you wait a full month between cycles.
So you get your period after stopping progesterone and then get a second period (generally a month later) before starting bcps again. However, if you ask to start early or if time is of the essence (in older women) sometimes they will let you start bcps on day 3 of the cycle (period) that begins immediately after you stop the progesterone which is considered cycling back-to-back. Doing back-to-back cycles sometimes leads to poorer stim results in cycle #2. The ovaries benefit from time to recover. Some of the best clinics (CCRM in Colorado) ask their patients to wait a full 3 months between cycles. I've been in your position and the first week or so of the off cycle was REALLY hard. I wanted to get going right away. But then as I started to heal from the frustration of the negative, the time ticked by quickly. Good luck! |
11:10 thank you for that input. It is exactly what I was looking for outside of the clearly obvious answer of having a baby sooner. Thanks.
Some REs think back to back stim cycles are good though, because your body can use the stims from the previous cycle to boost your response to the current cycle. I've had very good responses on back to back cycles. On the other hand, if you take a cycle off, there are a good number of "natural miracles" in that following cycle, as the stims from the previous cycle can boost your egg production. So definitely try naturally even if you take a cycle off.
