Summer child care

Anonymous
Is there a resource where I can research full-day summer camp/day care programs for school aged children? I got a flyer for the Department of Labor's summer camp (I applied to its daycare program a few years ago so I guess I'm still on the mailing list). I'm wondering if there's a resource where I can find/compare similar programs.

I posted some links on here a while back which had every camp in the area, the cost, the dates and the activities.

If you run a search for "list of camps" you might get it.

There is no one single source. You kind of just have to narrow down your area that will be most convenient and then look at those options.

By and large most summer day camps in the DC area no matter who the provider is or the cost of the camp, are generally babysitting services with some activities thrown in run by college students and high school students who have very little to no knowledge of child development and behavior management techniques.

Your kids will end up enjoying most camps and as a parent you will find most of them poorly run and a bit haphazard.

Daycare centers that provide camps don't provide that much better because their bread and butter is child care not summer camp.

Our Kids is a pretty good starting point.

Also, be aware that many popular camps start registration in January and are already full for this summer.

You should search through the county, city and area of interests like if it's science, drama-search using those words.

By now, many of them are booked and the remaining ones are either quite pricey (>$300/week) or subject is not as interesting as some others.

What are you talking about? Most of the private camps are actually run by and staffed by elementary school teachers with a college kid as an aide.
