14mm on Day 4

Anonymous
I have two follicles that are measuring 14 (another measuring 10, and others too small to measure). I have only stimmed for three days so far (today is the fourth). They are having me start Cetrotide today anyway, but I am nervous that my other follicles will not grow enough before these get too big. This is my first IVF and I don't know what to expect. I primed with estrogen patches, not birth control, because I am DOR.

Thoughts? Probability of good outcome?

everyone is different.

it is not uncommon to lose a few lead follicles. they want to maximize the number of mature eggs and to achieve that, they may have to sacrifice a leading follicle or two.

the good news is that you are responding to stimulation.

you can ask the sonographer how many small follicles you have- that may give you a sense of possible numbers

this is a tough process. I just went through my first ivf and I started cetrotide after just six days of stimming and I was nervous too.

I had 1 at 14mm on day 6, it was a very pesky leading follicle! They let it go all the way to 26 mm (day 11) to wait for the next cohort to come up. It was pretty painful in the end, felt like ohss, and was glad I did a freeze all! But the good news is we got 5 pgd normals out of that cycle, and am currently 7 weeks preg with first fet, so it can work out. I did do bcp to start, btw, but in my case leading follicle happened anyway.
