Cost to take down a load bearing wall, install a beam?

Anonymous
Our house has a pretty traditional floor plan and we'd like to open it up. We have a load bearing wall that would need to come down and a beam installed. What would be a ballpark cost for something like this?

We'd want to take the wall down, put in a new, reconfigured kitchen that opened to the living room and dining room.

Just the wall, probably $1,000 to $2,000, maybe a bit more if you have them do all of the drywall repair, painting, etc. And another $200 for an engineer to size the beam. Please don't do this type of job without a real engineer and stamped plans.

I'm guessing if you want to hire someone start to finish, its doing to be $3-4k.
