Which one will you choose: Bassett, Ethan Allen or A Pottery Barn Dining Table & Dining Chairs?

Anonymous
I'm looking to purchase a dining table and some chairs for my dining room. All the tables that I'm researching are within my price range and they have similar styles. However, in terms of quality, I can't decide which one to purchase.

I have a few questions:
Has anyone purchased dining tables or dining chairs from any of these stores: Bassett, Ethan Allen, or Pottery Barn?

If so, what was your experience base on the quality of the table and chairs you purchased, customer service, etc.?

I noticed that prices online (at Ethan Allen & Pottery Barn) are cheaper than the prices in the stores. I have online coupons for Pottery Barn as well that can't be used with purchases inside the store. Will it be best for me to just purchase my items online instead of the store? My husband wants to avoid going through the stores, but I like working with a sales clerk in person. However, since prices online are better I may reconsider.

Also, if you have a particular dining table or chair that you like from any of these stores, feel free to recommend it. If you have negative experiences with any of these stores, then please comment on that as well.

Thanks!

Personally I stay away from Pottery Barn furniture. I don't think the quality is very good. I bought a wood coffee table from there and the finish started chipping off after 6 months of use and Pottery Barn was of no help. If the pricing is all the same I would go with the Ethan Allen set.

I think Ethan Allen is good quality. Probably better then PB. Have you also considered a place like Zadia furniture in Rockville where it is real wood?

Bassett is probably the best quality of the stores you mentioned. You should see the pieces in person first, even if you order it online. And check out independent/privately owned stores, they often have the best quality of all!

Basset is good quality. I'd choose that or EA over PB for dining room.

Or room and board for American made, real wood that isn't going to fall apart

Bassett. Pottery Barn is not worth the price, and Ethan Allen has gone way downhill lately and is also overpriced.

We have a Bassett dining table and chairs and it's gorgeous! By far the best furniture purchase I've made. We've only had it for a year and a half, so it's hard for me to talk about quality. However, the two Pottery Barn pieces of furniture that I purchased look like shit. I will never buy large pieces of PB furniture again. Fine for accessories, but crap for real furniture. A friend of mine seems to only buy her furniture at PB, and her wood pieces that were purchased about five years ago look terrible.

I have a few pieces of furniture from Ethan Allen that I like. But they are upholstered.

PP here again ^

forgot to say that Bassett has big sales of you have the time to wait around for one. That's what we did. I think we got our set for 30% off.

And we combine the 30% off sale price with the 36-month no interest financing.

This question is really upsetting. I am trying to calm down right now.

Our EA dining room stuff is terrible quality.

Do not buy from Basset - they are terrible. We bought a dresser 15 months ago that is collapsing in the middle and they won't do anything about it.

We went with Ethan Allen for dr furniture and have not been disappointed. On the other hand, we went with PB for living room furniture, and it has not held up.
