| We are ready to move from DC to a quieter neighborhood for various reasons. Our kid is in a DC private right now and we would consider that when we make our move. Curious to know about any private schools near the Hollin Hills community and Lake Barcroft. Any tips on nearby schools? Thank you! |
| our friends who live at lake barcroft send their child to Congressional, which is very close to their house. they are happy. |
Curious why you make that move? |
| Hollin Hills and Lake Barcroft are totally different communities miles from one another. Why did you pick these two? |
|
We live in HH and one of our kids goes to school in Georgetown. The commute isn't that bad and the drive along the Parkway is pretty. We have always been able to find a carpool. Other closer area private schools include: Browne Academy, Burgundy Farm CDS, Bishop Breton, and St. Stephens/St. Agnes but we know plenty of people who have kids attending school in DC (Gonzaga, Visi, Stone Ridge, etc.)
Hope that helps! |
| If you want to go the Catholic elementary school route St. Louis is a great school but getting hard to get into if you are a non-sibling or a member of the parish. It is just outside of Hollin Hills. |
thank you - this does help! Why move from DC? I know the communities seem different but we are craving more natural surroundings and an affordable house that we love - 600k goes a longer way outside of the city and so does the fresh air. We are also open to other areas but those areas speak to us for different reasons. HH for the community aspects of it and the mid century homes. and Lake Barcroft because I grew up in the midwest near a lake and would love my kids to be able to swim in fresh water like I did growing up. What a treat that would be for them. Thank you for this list -it is a great place for us to start. I have not heard a of a few (Browne for examplel) so will look at those. We love our DC private and our kids to as well but we are at the top of our budget and now that we are house hunting it is time to be wiser with our money choices. We have a 3rd & 5th grader and in a DC k-12 private. It will be very hard to leave but we are ready and have been thinking about it for a few years. fwiw I have a few friends thinking of the same move (with younger ones - in public and not in school yet). We have been in DC for almost 20 years. |
| I love Lake Barcroft, but the one thing stopping me from moving there is the school situation. If you want public which most people do, they are not as strong as other area schools. If you know you want private the whole way through, some people like Congressional. |
| I am not familiar with the schools in Lake Barcroft. I did a quick search and the good school report says they get twos and threes. I don't know about Congressional - we love the progressive schools here in NW and our child goes to one of them. A quick look lets me know they are about 5k cheaper then the DC schools. Any parents out there that send their kids to Congressional and live in Lake Barcroft? How would a progressive, liberal family fit in? |
| We live near Lake Barcroft and my DC attends a small private school called Pinecrest. We love it. Other good schools that are close include Congressional and MSNV (if you want Montessori). LB/Sleep Hollow is a beautiful area, especially if you want a house on some land. These schools range in price with Congressional being the highest. Pinecrest works for us from an overall value standpoint - reasonable, outstanding teachers, and small class sizes. |
NP here, also interested in Lake Barcroft area. Any particular waterfront areas on Lake Barcroft that you would recommend? |
| It's a beautiful oasis right on lake barcroft. Very unique. |
| I live in Falls Church City but Lake Barcroft is lovely. We moved to FCC for the schools but I'd live in Lake Barcroft or Sleepy Hollow in a heartbeat. |
| If you want progressive and nature, Burgundy Farm is very close to Hollin Hills. |
+1 gorgeous. We ended up elsewhere because the public schools were not well reputed but I got the sense most residents send their kids to private |
