Has anyone gotten off the WL at GDS for 9???

Anonymous
It's been a record year, unprecedented number of siblings, most qualified applicant pool ever, etc.

but still has anyone received a call?

Time to move on...

If that's what admissions is telling you, I would move on.

I know half of the admitted students from our school choose not to go - so there have definitely been some declines. At this point, it's probably best to go to plan B.

I know a handful of kids that moved off the waitlist last year. There is usually always movement off the waitlist. What is the admissions office telling you?
Anonymous
Not OP, but the GDS admissions office told me that they took no one off the wait list for 9th this year and were not anticipating any movement.

We declined a slot.

Also declined spot -- boy 9th grade.

Everyone I know who applies to GDS considers it a back-up and they all get acceptances and most decline. GDS must know it has an exceptionally low yield and so completely over-accepts in anticipation of these declines.

We are hoping they got it wrong this year and my son gets off the WL. And it can't be a back up to too many schools because my son never considered single sex?

DD got in but declined but I never heard it was a back up. It was one of our top 2 choices (ahead of Sidwell and Holton) so I don't think it is a back per se.

"Everyone I know who applies to GDS considers it a back-up and they all get acceptances and most decline. GDS must know it has an exceptionally low yield and so completely over-accepts in anticipation of these declines" Exactly how bitchy are you that you would make that comment here? It's obvious that OP is hoping for a spot. you obviously don't go to GDS but you feel the need to put down her choice? Have a nice day...

What is the profile of some of the students who get in but decline ---- Ssat, grades, public/private?
Anonymous
I think declining comes down to fit, at least that was our case. Even on fit the issues were minor

Good grief. GDS as everyone's backup? Beyond silly.
Who is this obsessed troll?
