Tea Tree Oil Shampoo

Anonymous
Bought it today for my 6 year old in my endless pursui to get her dry head to stop itching. I know actual tea tree oil is contraversial for kids but the shampoo is ok right?

IDK, but my 10 yr old uses it, and I've used it 2x on my 7 yr old.

You can get non-tea tree oil shampoo that will help stop the itching, too. Anything that doesn't have sulfates.

Try Aveeno sulfate free shampoo. I use this on my 7 yr old normally.

I've tried Head and Shoulders, Tgel, and a few others with no luck - I'll look for the aveeno. Is that a kid one or just in the regular shampoo section?

Tea tree oil is controversial for children? What isn't controversial for kids?! Not disputing this but frustrated because I have used the oil for years on my kids' skin to clear up rashes, bumps, lice prevention, itchy scalp, etc because I always thought it was natural and thus better than otc chemical mixtures!

It is a suspected endocrine disruptor. The concern is that it can mimic sex hormones in the body. "Natural" doesn't always equal "good" or "safe"!

regular. Also, I recently bought "Jason Kids Only Daily Detangling Shampoo" which is also sulfate free. I haven't tried this on DC yet.

Have you tried Aveda's Rosemary Mint shampoo? Rosemary is supposed to help with the scalp (works for me) and should be safer.

Crap. I've had my kids use tea tree oil shampoo for years. I had no idea it might be bad for them. Add that to the list of things I've screwed up as a parent.

It helps prevent lice infestations so swe use it on a regular basis. So far no lice
