Does anyone recommend flying direct over connections when traveling with a 2 year old? We are traveling from DC to Cancun in Dec and are looking at a flight with connections (which is cheaper) versus direct flight. Is it better to break up the travel time (get out of plane, play) or just get there as quickly as possible?

I have done many flights with my kids, some being as long as 14 hours. My preference is always direct flight, get to the destination as fast as possible. But, honestly, if I was able to save enough money, I'd do a connecting flight and just make the best of it. So, I guess I am saying that best is direct, but with the right amount of financial incentive, I could convince myself that connecting is the best way to go. |
With a toddler I pay a lot of attention to direct flight and at good times of day. You don't want to get stuck somewhere, and these days almost no connecting city is very reliable. I'd even rather travel from BWI nonstop than connect. |
I'd choose direct too, unless the price difference was that extreme. It's hard being on a plane that long (I've done a 15 hour stretch, and it's pretty much hell), but it's so much better than potentially being stuck somewhere mid-way. |
Direct. Always Direct! |
Nonstop all the way! |
It depends on how long the flight is and what the total travel time difference is. We recently flew to Carribbean and I was very happy to have the flight broken up. Our toddler was getting very antsy at the end of the 3.5 hr leg... He loved running around the airport during the layover so it was a nice break. |
