Jeep Cherokee

Anyone own one of these? Latitude model? Some reviews I've read are not great. Would like to hear from others

I like the looks, but Chrysler and Jeep have never been known for their reliability.

+1. Jeeps (like Land Rovers) are giant pieces of shit. Sure, they look burly and have great capability offroad, but they are both fickle and require lots of maintenance. If you need the offroad capability and are willing to put up with the bullshit then it may be worth it. I had a buddy that used to own a couple Discoveries and did a lot of offroading and to him it was worth it, but he was always turning wrenches on them or taking them to the shop. If you want a reliable daily driver that you can pile the miles on I would look at a Honda or Toyota. Some of the Toyotas are pretty offroad capable (4 Runner, Land Cruiser, FJ, etc.). Not so much the Highlander or the Sequoia.

I love my Jeep, but it's a Grand Cherokee, not one of the million other models they have.

It's not fickle and has never required anything but oil changes and new tires.

I had a friend in a horrific car accident in a Jeep. The accident was made much worse because of default in the gas tank, that Jeep was WELL AWARE OF, and did not recall. It was cheaper to settle the cases as they came up. She has burns over 2/3 of her body for the rest of her life. She couldn't discuss the details of the legal suit but her only piece of advice to me was: never buy a Jeep.

That's one I plan on listening to.

Bullshit. Mine has 3 recalls right now. They recall them for everything. Sounds like she was too lazy to have it done.

I have a Grand Cherokee and love it. yes, it's had recalls, but I brought it into the dealer and it was done in an hour. Love the look and the interior function.

Here come the defenders and one offs. Look, bottom line, Jeeps are known to be pieces of shit as far as reliability goes. That's simply a fact. You can research it as much as you like until you have enough data points to satisfy you. They are fun to drive, have nice features and are extremely capable offroad, but you are kidding yourself if you think they are anything approaching reliable.

The cars should have been taken off the road. They were not.

The recalls are mostly for Grand Cherokee I think (their 'higher end model') - not the model discussed in this article.

Also, her accident occurred 10 years ago. The recall happened just 2 years ago. They knew. They did nothing.

Grand Cherokee google shows 4 and 5 star reviews from both customers and car & driver mag.
