can baby move too much in utero?

Anonymous
Occasionally, like today after a soda, my 35 week old fetus moves around a lot.
This isn't always after food, either. Last night before dinner, when I know my blood sugar must have been low, she similarly moved a lot.

Is there any known harm indicated by excessive movement?
How about any indication of nearing delivery? I would imagine babies in utero move around less before delivery... but I've heard not always.

I don't think too much movement is every a bad thing. Everything I've read and my OB has said is to watch for decreased fetal movements. Even late third trimester, the baby's movements might change given the lack of space, but frequency of the movements should still be the same. I have read some things saying that right before delivery, the fetus may be less active (resting up before the big adventure?), but only here or there. Again, decreased fetal movement is the main concern.

That being said, my fetus does the same thing. 37w2d here and he tends to move around a lot after I eat something or when I am really hungry (probably because he's hungry too).

I'm only at 23 weeks, but mine won't stop wriggling, either. I find it reassuring, actually. I have noticed that after meals, there's often more movement, but that's also true of when I'm just sitting still...reading the newspaper, watching TV, etc.

I had a spoonful of ice cream last week, and I could swear I felt it flip over completely. Whether that was due to the cold, the sugar rush, loving the taste (just like mom), or something else is anyone's guess. We tried to replicate it by feeding me more ice cream on another night, but it didn't happen. We figure the baby has its own agenda in there, but movement is good (if sometimes a little painful for me).

I'm having this issue with my second pregnancy, now 38 weeks. My OB says they never worry about too much movement, only a decrease/change in fetal movement as PP said. This baby's movements are large and painful and I'm hoping it doesn't mean he's going to be some kind of crazy man when he gets here!

18 weeks here and my little one is a mover! DH actually got to feel it for the first time last night. Just love it, enjoy it while it lasts. With number one I almost took it for granted and missed it soooo much when she was born. That's why I couldn't wait for #2 to start moving (luckily I felt this one much earler)
