Expectant and Postpartum Moms

I'm meeting with a couple of OBs this week to try and find one that's a good fit for me. Other than just meeting them and getting a sense of their personality, I want to be prepared with questions to ask. I have a few, posted below, but I'm looking for suggestions of other questions to ask:
Are you not on call at certain times (e.g., every other weekend, scheduled vacations that patients are informed of, etc.)? Who is your back-up if someone goes into labor and you're not on call? Who do I call/page if I have a question outside of office hours? Do you do sonograms and/or blood draws at your office? Discussion of views on inducing labor, epidurals, c-sections, natural labor, etc. TIA! |

What % of your patients have you delivered in the past 5 years?
How often do you have to reschedule appointments because of emergency hospital situations (patient in labor, emergency surgery, etc.)? If possible, I would ask an existing patient how long the wait is to see the doc. My single practice OB/GYN had super long waits ALWAYS and it was highly annoying. I loved her, so stuck with it. She did deliver my twins via emergency c-section (she had a few hours notice that it was time and scheduled me for a 5pm surgery). |
| I would ask not just % of pt's delivered, but how many of them were spontaneous vs. scheduled...my solo OB has a high rate of deliveries but I came to realize LATER that was because he does a lot of c-sections and inductions. If you want a spontaneous delivery, which I did, he or she may not be there. I would also ask about communication between he or she and the covering physicians, I had to call a few times and once was admitted to hospital by covering docs and my regular OB had no idea. I was upset about that. |
