| First episode was last night. I think it will get a great season seeng how the 60's change. Even though I miss Chummy and Jenny, this is still one of my favorite series. |
| Loved it. |
| What was elder Jenny referring to at the end, re: one word answers and scandals being sparked? |
Thalidomide? I couldn't recall if the mother of Susan was they same one they prescribed that to last season. |
It wasn't...that was the mom of a young toddler. (I just watched it recently because this is my first season viewing in "real time.") But I was wondering if there would be any repercussions over that mom's prescription as well, and thought of it in the beginning of the episode when the mom was drinking the prescription bottle. |

I thought the mom was drinking mild of magnesia.
I just looked up thalidomide because I thought by 1961 doctors might have been more familiar with the deformities it causes if not why. Apparently, it was withdrawn in late 1961. It started being used in Germany in 1958, and 10,000 babies were born with deformed limbs. http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-15536544 |

Yes, I interpreted that last line as a reference to Thalidomide.
Although I do still enjoy the series, it's just not the same without Jenny. The cast now feels all supporting; I think it worked better with an ingenue lead anchoring the cast. |
| I don't remember leotards being so high-cut in the leg back then. They were more straight cut and terribly unflattering. |
|
Loved it.
Wasn't it crazy when the doctor was holding/feeding the thalidomide baby and his cigarette smoke was swirling in the air? Crazy, but authentic. |
| Still loving it! Yes, it's not quite the same without Jenny and Chummy, but still fun to watch. |
| I have never seen the show but is it gory? |
Not really. Realistic scenes when birthing happens, so some occasional blood, but nothing I personally can't handle, being a GoT fan! |
| I just read tha Chummy is coming back for Season 6! |

I just came on here to post about Chummy, too. Here's what Call the Midwife said on Facebook:
This morning we are delighted to tell you that our beloved Miranda Hart will be returning to Nonnatus House as the brilliant Chummy Noakes!! We’ve been bursting to share the news that Chummy has now left the Mother and Baby Home and is heading back to Poplar for season 6! We’re thrilled to be once again featuring Miranda Hart and her fabulous blend of warmth, strength and vulnerability, as Chummy gets to grips with the medical and social challenges of the 1960’s. Restored to Nonnatus House, Chummy will relish being back in bustling world of the East End. Miranda appears only briefly in our forthcoming Christmas Special, but returns to centre stage in Season 6 Episode One, when Chummy is called upon to support a local mum in a challenging situation. She will appear frequently throughout the new series. Call the Midwife Christmas Special will air in the 2016 holiday season across the world, followed by season 6 early in 2017 |
