Waitlisted at #22 - 2nd Grade. Advice on our chances?

Hi All,

We just moved to DC and found out we're wait listed for EW Stokes Bilingual for 2nd grade (Spanish) at #22. I don't know what this number means in terms of our chances of getting in - especially for 2nd grade. Any experts out there who could shed some light on this for us? I don't want to get my hopes up (but, yeah, they're up).

Thanks!

I'd say you are better shape than #23. Good luck.

2nd grade is hard because by then most people have made their choice to stay with the school so not many openings. Maybe a few but not sure they will go all the way to 22.

That is just general info, not school specific.

Call the school and ask and let them know you are interested.

There's no point in asking. Your interest has nothing to do with whether you get in--it's about what the people above you on the list decided to do.

It is very unlikely that you will get in. There are probably fewer than 5 seats for 2nd grade and if a kid who gets in for a different grade has a 2nd grade sibling, they will be ranked higher than your kid.

You should start thinking about your other options--at second grade, you have a right to whatever school you live in-boundary for. It would be good to enroll your kid there as soon as possible; they have to take you whenever you enroll, but doing it soon will help them figure out how many out-of-boundary kids they should accept.

Well actually there is a point in saying you're very interested. We moved to an area where we wanted our son to attend K and of all 5 classes there was one spot. The admissions secretary said there was one family before us and that they were being indecisive and stalling. So she gave them a deadline and when they still couldn't decide, our kid got the spot.

so call when you get up to #2 on the waitlist.

There are only 48 students in second grade at Stokes. Your child is very unlikely to get in.

What other schools did you put on your lottery application and what is your in-bound, by-right DCPS school?
