Hi DOR Ladies,
I'm wondering what you think of my chances based on your experiences for getting pregnant with my own eggs. I have been TTC for 12 months on my own with no luck, we have a 2.5 year old who I got pregnant with naturally. My RE thinks my current chances for getting pregnant naturally are low, less than 5%. I have completed the infertility workup and my diagnoses is DOR. What do you think my chances are with IUI or IVF with these numbers? IUI is covered by our insurance but not IVF. Age: Just turned 39, secondary infertility AFC: Best: 10 Worst: 8 FSH: Best: 8 Worst: 10 AMH: Best: .4 Worst .3 Estrogen, thyroid, and all other hormones are very good Should I bother with IUI/IVF? If you had similar numbers, how many IUIs/IVFs did it take for you to get pregnant? Thanks! |
| Egg quality should be part of the assessment as well. I had great numbers, lousy egg quality when trying for no 2. Moving to DE now after 2.5 yrs of trying, lots of money gone. Best of luck to you! |
But without doing an IVF you can't tell about egg quality, right? |
Even with IVF they can't tell egg quality. OP, you should unlump IUI and IVF from your thought process. These are very different propositions involvement, cost and effectiveness wise. |
| Egg quality is most strongly linked with age. If you have the money, I would try IVF with your own eggs while you are still under 40. |
So how can they tell egg quality? Or do they just look at embryo development/PGS? |

I had about the same #s as you when I was 35, and it took me 2 years of trying every month to get pregnant with my first. With my second, my AFC was 3 and my AMH was <.01. I tried for a year on my own, and nothing happened. Did NC IVF and it worked on the first try. Dr told me that it was about a 5% chance of it working. You just never know with these things. I would not even bother wasting time on IUI in your case. Go straight to IVF.
I am a huge believer in NC IVF because it worked for me, and was so easy and much less expensive than traditional IVF. Plus, I didn't feel comfortable with using all of the drugs. Good luck to you. |

At the Shady Grove consult, they'll give you the percentage likelihood of a successful outcome for IVF based on your particular numbers.
I would schedule that consult. It will give you a sense of where you stand I have slightly better numbers than you but I'm older (40). I got a bfp on my first IVF cycle (but no ultrasound yet so I'm not pregnant yet- from a clinical perspective). But it means it can work for you. |
Just a different point of view. My AMH was 3.6 at 40, and all other numbers in the normal range, Shady Grove gave me 60% likelihood of positive outcome during the consult. 3 fresh IVF cycles later still no pregnancy, not even a chemical. So take these forecasts with a good grain of salt because they are not always accurate. |

Just for your comparison:
AFC: Average 6~8 FSH: Best: 11 Worst: 13 AMH: Best: 1.5 Worst 1.1 AMA: age 40-41 3 fresh IVF with 5 transfers (both fresh and FET), 3 BFP but all ended in MC, still no take home baby. |

Your current chances for getting pregnant naturally EACH MONTH may be 5%, but that is cumulative over time, so if you kept trying, your odds would go up.
With IUI, you might up your monthly chances to 10%. With IVF, you might up your monthly chances to 20% (but you often lose a month or two before and/or after). I would consider natural cycle IVF, or a guarantee plan if you qualify for one for conventional IVF. My guess is you will get pregnant in the next year. |

AFC: best, 8. worst, 3
AMH: .02 FSH: best, 13. worst, 22 e2: 8 age: 40 So, terrible numbers but BFP on first clomid TI cycle. mmc at 9 weeks, waiting on genetic testing of the remains. the eggs might fertilize, but they may also be utter crap anyway. |
OP here. Thanks for sharing your story. So do you think the reason why NC IVF worked is because your egg was good quality, but had a hardened shell and that's why NCIVF worked so quickly for you? |
| I had an AMH of less than .01. I got pregnant naturally at 42 with a now super healthy 13 month old. Recently I went to acupuncture and she said I am very fertile now. Ha according to western medicine, SH, DF DE was my only option. SIRM gave me 3/. 2 miscarriages one healthy spontaneous conception. |
