all signs of a period - but no period?

Anonymous
I am 10 months postpartum and weaned completely 5 weeks ago. I have not had a period yet. I'm not on the pill.

This past week, I have felt achy and tired. On Thursday, I had low back pain (which I usually don't get) and bad cramps at night. Especially on the right side, I had pain radiating down to my hip. Also, I got a zit and I usually have clear skin. So, all signs pointed to period. Before baby, I have never had bad periods or many premenstrual symptoms but I've read your first period after baby can be bad.

So I've been waiting and waiting and nothing. Now it's Sunday night and I feel much better, no more pain, cramping, aches, etc. So I may not be getting a period.

A few times since I have weaned I have noticed a thicker discharge (sorry TMI) and thought maybe I was ovulating. I just noticed this again this weekend. Could it be I'm ovulating and feeling these symptoms?

Just wondering if anyone else has been there.

BTW I'm 33, my thyroid has been checked recently (I check it out every year since my mom had an issue in her late 40s) and am otherwise healthy and fairly fit. Thanks for any thoughts/advice!

Take a pregnancy test and get back to us.

My guess is ovulating. But it's only a guess.

Sorry I left out this crucial point - there is no way I am pregnant.

Haven't had a lot of sex since baby, in part because baby #1 was a (happy) accident and I'm not planning on having sex until I can straighten out my cycles, or can get past year 1 and fathom being pregnant again. So we do oral basically. Last time we had sex was 14 weeks ago (protected - with condom) and pulled out - and considering I am not quite 110 pounds with no other symptoms think I would know if I was 16 weeks.

It sounds like it could be PMS or ovulation. I've had all the PMS symptoms and then no period until a week after they went away. My first ovulation post baby was awful. I considered taking advil for the pain and I also had the achy back/hip.

The pain on one side makes me think that it was more likely ovulation, but unless you are doing some sort of charting, there is no way to know for sure.
