Special Needs Trust advice

Anonymous
Hello:

I have a five year old son with HFA, we have a small family, so my husband and I want to establish a special needs trust. You never can tell what the future will hold. I know it's early and premmature but I figure better be safe then sorry.

Can any one advise who they used? Good recs?

We used Antonoplos and Associates, great experience. We are in DC so it was convenient and they were amazing.

Michael Bogin handled one for us. Office in MD, we live in DC. Easy to work with.

Where are you located? Bogin is great.

Another vote for Matt Bogin.

Another vote for Antonoplos and Associates. They do a really thorough job. Also one of their new team members is a huge disability rights advocate. In my opinion, it always helps to have someone on your team who truly gets it.

Ron Landsman is good. Depending on how much money you plan to put in, you might like the pooled trusts--in DC it's through Quality Trust. Much lower management fees, but pros and cons.

Also look into ABLE accounts. And there is a bill in Congress now that would allow people to roll 529 accounts into ABLE accounts without penalty, so you might want to see if that passes and then put the money into a 529 now and roll over to ABLE if needed.

Whoops--put Quality Trust when I meant Vinner Trust. More info here: http://www.shared-horizons.org/
