How much time do you need for transfer in Dubai?

Anonymous
I am looking at the flight option where you have to transfer in Dubai to come back to the US. We will be doing an international check in at a different country. Would 2 hr 10 min be enough to transfer? We will be wrangling two toddlers. I know there would be additional screening when boarding an US bound flight but how much do we need?
If it matters, we will be using the same airline from origin to IAD. So the airline knows we are scheduled for that flight along with I imagine everyone else that is US bound?
Any idea how big the airport is and easy/difficult this transfer would be with two kids and 2 hrs of transfer time.

The airport is huge but one of the best in the world.

You should be fine.

It is a big airport (largest in the world for international flights, just overtook lhr), but minimum transfer time in Dubai is very short, especially if you are on Emirates/in the same terminal. I often have 1 hr 20 minutes or so, but they can go lower. 2hours is plenty. Of course, the first flight may be delayed and you may miss the flight, but that is always a risk.

What are you flying? If it is Emirates one leg and another airline the second you will have to change terminals as Emirates has its own terminal.

It might serve you well to sign up for Marhaban or Alhan services. They will meet you when you get off the first flight and usher you through without delay. Basically a service that lets you bypass lines. Go through customs and immigration without delay.

OP here we will be flying Emirates.

You should be fine with 2 hours, but be prepared to WALK. It was such a hike, and we were on Emirates for both legs. I may be exaggerating, but it felt like a 20 minute walk.

The last time I used it, it cost 30-40 dollars. Well worth it when getting off a long haul late.

Here's the link. See what they can http://www.marhabaservices.com

The other service is Ahlan. http://www.ahlan-dia.com

I just did it 2 days ago! 1 hour 20 minute connection and plenty of time. It does take about 20 mins and about 14 escalators to get from one gate to another in the Emirates terminal. The security line is pretty efficient and well staffed.

You should be fine w/ 2 hrs. If you are flying Emirates, there's a good chance you won't get your stroller back until you get back to IAD. Emirates offer free airport strollers at the gate so make sure you grab one when you get off your first leg.

As others have said, it is a huge airport. We were on Emirates coming and going and had to take a shuttle between terminals that seemed like it traveled 10 miles.
2 hours should be okay, though.
