I'm in STEM and despite all the amazing things happening in the technology these days, I've been feeling stagnant career-wise for years. Impostor syndrome hasn't helped, but I've always been better at succeeding academically than at go-getting. What I need is an objective understanding of what my skills are, what opportunities are out there, what new skills I should develop to pursue those opportunities, and how to gain those skills. How do I even begin to figure that all out? There are some great networking events out there, but many of them are clearly not scheduled with parents in mind. I have small kids and a spouse with health challenges, so I need to use my time effectively. I'm also a little embarrassed by how much I don't know. Thoughts?
For what it's worth, I'm not looking for a new job right now. Short-term, at least, I care more about growing in my current position and building a reputation for myself within and outside my organization. |
