When do babies become "fun"?

The newborn stage is so stressful.. learning the baby's patterns and relearning when they change in three days. Worrying about germs and fevers because they haven't had their 2 month shots. Insane hours. When do moments of fun start? When the baby smiles?

4-6 months. Really fun once they can sit up.

At 4 or 5, when you can hold a conversation with them and actually play with them.

Oooooh sorry to say the fun began for me at about 14-15 months when their personalities really start to shine. (But I have twins and the stress is insane)

I think 9-10 months is really fun and then again from 15-21 months or so. But, I'm a person who loves every minute from birth to 2. I'm not a huge fan of age 3.

In the eye of the beholder. For some people, it's always fun. For others, it never is.

Every day has moments of fun--smiles, little snuggles. Enjoy those and do your best. Every month from four months out gets better and better. Lots of changes, yes, but that growth is a testament to all you've done so far--bigger and stronger and learning!

Just keep swimming!

Different people will give you different answers. When the baby starts to recognize you is definitely a positive point - as is when they can sit unassisted and be given toys etc to play with alertly.

That said I'm not a baby person. I have two sons - 2 and almost 5. The 2 year old is fun now - talks adorably, super affectionate - but EXHAUSTING. The preschool age (3-4) has been my favorite age thus far.

Hmm. I'm not sure you want to frame a loving relationship with your child as "fun" or "not fun".
Don't you have feelings of love and nurturing right now? Every stage has its own beauty. You need to find it!
I can say that - DC1 was special needs from birth and would choke during the night as a newborn, which meant I didn't sleep at all. And DC2 was fine except she woke up more than 6 times a night every night for the first two years of her life (and needed to be put back to sleep).

I always think 6 months is the cutest age. They're fattened up and can smile and sit up! I adore that age.

I think around 6 months to a year was awesome.

I think things started getting progressively more fun starting around 9 months. There are always challenges too (mobility means getting into everything) but for me that's when my baby really started to become a little person.

I have seriously loved every stage. I find even newborns and really little babies fun but I know that's not the norm so I'll try to be more objective here. I think the best stages so far have been: around 6 months or whenever they start crawling and interacting/playing more; around 9 months when their personality seems to start showing more and they are babbling; and around 12-14 months or whenever they start walking (mine walked late) and talking more; and then the toddler years are challenging (fun still in their own way, but very hard) and they become less challenging finally around age 4-5 or so when they are old enough (mostly) to be done w/ all the tough toddler-y stuff (potty training, tantrums, night waking) and young enough that they are really silly and funny and come up with all kinds of crazy and interesting ideas. It's fun from there on out until they hit middle school and then it's really hard again (still fun, but really challenging)

Live in the moment and see the joy when he/she makes a face when passing gas. If you miss the little things because all you care about it is what's next, you lose out on the joys.

4 months you turn a corner, 5 months is super cute, 6 months is fun, and it gets better from there. Newborns are boring and sleep deprivation sucks. Hang in there!
