"older kid" playgrounds?

Are there any good playgrounds for older kids? I took my kids to Clemyjontri today, and although they had a great time, my 7 and 5 year old sons were definitely amongst the oldest ones there and were a little too old for the play structures. As I also have a 1.5 year old who is just getting into playgrounds, it would be great if I could find one that had appropriate play equipment for the big guys. I need to prolong our playground years! Are there any good playgrounds for big kids? I'm not really concerned about the toddler, as she'll be happy throwing rocks in a puddle right now. We're in northern Fairfax county, but can travel!

I think Cabin John Playground (the train park) is a great option.

Wheaton and Cabin John are both great. Its a shame Fairfax cant pull off something similar.

I think Cabin John and Wheaton are sort of limited- the play structures aren't very big so it's easy to get bored.

I like Lafayette and Beavoir for my 5 YO.

There is a new playground at the Herndon Community Center that my kids like. It's a little over a year old. They are 7 and 9. They mostly like spinning on the several spinny things plus a merry go round and they like to climb the big net or the tree. This is also good for young kids.

Ditto. These are the best in DC we have found for older kids. Beavoir is open weekends to the public.

It's a real shame that playgrounds are so boring today that a 5 year old- who is actually at the bottom of the age range these structures were built for- finds most of them dull. My kids do as well. We have taken all the risk out of playgrounds! Where's the fun in that?

Burke lake, Lee district playground (Chessie's big back yard), and Watkins regional park is awesome too but a bit far (near Fed Ex)

One, with OP's age range, I think Lafayette is a good choice because there is also a fenced in tot lot that's probably good up to age 3.

Tuckahoe Park in Falls Church/Arlington is not huge but has a fun spider web climb thing that older kids should like. There's also a trail through the woods to tennis courts (and maybe a basketball hoop?).
