Why do some men spit on the ground?

| Mainly smokers do. And sometimes people are sick and are coughing up crap that they don't want to swallow back down. I know I don't. |

Spitting is a big issue in mainland China. The pollution causes upper respiratory illnesses and other sinus problems (ie, when you blow your nose, what comes out is black!) Everyone from small children to elderly people are hacking up phlegm all day. Most unpleasant when someone spits on your carpeted floor.
Maybe you see this behavior in the DC area because of the prevalence of seasonal allergies. |

I am from Potomac, I am a female and there is nothing more satisfying then a really good spit. Sometimes my salivary glands are on overdrive and I would rather not swallow the warm pool of saliva that is sloshing around in my mouth. So onto the ground it goes.
I do not do this on a regular basis. It's only when called for ...but it really is fun. You should try it sometime. I have a friend (who also happens to be female) and she can really project pretty far. It's a sight to see! |

I saw two today. One spit out of her car window. a good shot, I must admit, as it totally hit the street and not the window |
