One day in Charleston, SC, what to do?

Will be staying in downtown Charleston with kids 7 & 12 and have one day completely free. What would you do, see, eat?

Go to the market and walk down the battery. Find some seafood restaurant and get some pralines and shop.

Eat at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Best shrimps in the Low Country.

If I recommended some small favorite restaurants in Charleston, then unfortunately I would have to kill you.

Please don't go to Bubba Gump there are so many better options - SNOB, Pearlz, etc.

Bubba Gump is a national chain. There are so many local, better choices.

If I were in Hazelton, PA, I'd gladly eat at the Olive Garden, but not in Charleston where there are so many better options available.

If I am going to a food destination, yes I am a snob.

+1

OP, take the boat out to Fort Sumter for the tour and boat ride. Kids will love that, plus a carriage ride.

We spent a morning doing an eco tour. Company was called Barrier Island or some such. Left out of isle of palms marina. Had lunch at the restaurant by the marina when we got back.

Go on a carriage ride to get your bearings. Pick out a house tour or two. EAT. There are some AMAZING small restaurants!

Eat. Carriage ride. Browse King Street and Market Street. Eat again.

I would choose Hominy Grill for lunch and FIG for dinner.

I agree with the carriage ride and market street. You also may want to consider the SC Aquarium.

Slightly North of Broad (SNOB) for lunch, Food is Good (FIG) for dinner. Go for a carriage ride, swing on the swings down by the water, maybe tour an old home. I love Chas.
