Taking kid out of school early

Anonymous
I have to pick my 2nd grader up early from school one day for an appointment, which I have never had to do before. I will let them know in advance. Will they have him waiting for me in the office or would I go to the classroom? How much time would it take? I want to know how much time to allow for picking him up.

I always email the teacher with the pick up time and give myself about 5-10 extra minutes for the pick up. I've never been allowed to go the classroom- they call the teacher and ask him or her to send little Susie to the office because her mom is here. I usually give myself the full 10 mins if I'm picking up during recess.

You will have to wait for them to call the classroom, then the kid has to get packed up. Then two other kids have to walk your child down to the office and THEN you can check out the kid and leave. Hope you don't have a fire drill at the same time... that happened to me and they were a pain in the butt about allowing me to take the kid even though they hadn't pulled the fire alarm yet.

It totally depends on your school. Call the front office and ask.

In my school, I email the teacher and my kid is typically waiting in the front office at the appointed time.

Depends...only one time was she at the office waiting for me, the rest of the times, they called down to her classroom to have her sent.

Give yourself extra time if your child is in a special when you get there.

It really depends on the day. The day before spring break or other holiday the office is busy with many kids leaving early and the process will take longer.
