There's a mom in our neighborhood who drives her kid to the bus stop every day and stops right in front of the kids and then spends 10-15 minutes chitchatting with other parents while still in the car. She has her car running the entire time and the fumes are going straight towards the other children at the bus stop. Her own child is not impacted as he's still in the car while she's doing this.
There no oom for the children to move out of the way as our neighborhood does not have side walks and it's a very busy road. However, there is plenty of room for her to pull over before or after the bus stop or make a turn so that she's on a neighboring street and not so close to the kids. I am not sure how to approach this mother who seems to either be clueless or very rude. What would you do? I would like to find a way to deal with this without confronting her directly as I don't really know her and don't know how she would take this kind of feedback. I have considered driving my child to school just because of this issue but that would make me late to work every day and seems very extreme. Help! |
| if there's plenty of room for her to pull over after the bus stop or turn onto a neighboring street, have your kid stand there. |
| "Could you turn your engine off, please? We are all breathing car exhaust." |
| I would just stand where she normally lingers her car. |
Why does she drive her kids to the bus stop? Do they not have legs that can walk there. If she has 10-15min to linger, I am confused as to why she would drive. |
I drive to the bus stop because I have to get somewhere else right after the bus comes. I don't have time to walk back home and get my car. I think OP is saying she lingers for 10 minutes while the kids are waiting for the bus with the engine off. |
This. I'm not sure how you could possibly address the situation without speaking to her directly. I would probably go with: "Hey, I'm sure you don't realize this, but we're all breathing your car exhaust. Would you mind turning your car off while you're sitting? Thank you so much." |
This. She is clueless. Just want to say amen sister to your post. All these folks who hang out in their car with the engines on for extended periods of time really need to get a clue. I see this happening at most of my kids activities. People will hang out in their cars, with the engines running. So annoying. |
If she has 10min to linger, she can walk them up, kiss goodbye and walk back home and go drive where she needs to be then. How lazy can you be? |
I do not find this to be any kind of a serious problem. We drive in traffic; we walk by traffic. Unless I can actually smell the fumes, I would not say anything. It is her business how or why she drives her kids and/or why she chats. You have a lot of time to worry about things. |
I don't understand why you wouldn't think of doing this OP. She's clueless; time to clue her in. |
It sounds like her exhaust pipe is directly pointed at the bus stop and most of the kids don't even think to move out of the way. This is the kind of thing that can really impact a kid's respiratory system. I'm guessing you're one of those people who is pretty ignorant about health issues. |
What about the other kids. Not cool. |
