Recent VBAC at Virginia Hospital Center?

Anonymous
I had posted this in the general forum, and someone recommended that I post it here, as well.

Has anyone had any positive or negative experiences recently with a VBAC at Virginia Hospital Center? We are considering this for our second. My Ob/Gyn told me I would need to labor the entire time in the hospital and be monitored the whole time (Dr. Lawson). I had a c-section at 37 weeks last time because of pre-e, so never went into labor.

I was wondering if anyone had any insight to share about how it went for them with a VBAC the second time around at Virginia Hospital Center. Was the staff helpful? Did you feel safe? Also, after having a C and a vaginal birth, which they would prefer if given the option. Thank you!

I'm also exploring VBAC options for #2. I highly recommend getting in touch with ICAN of Northern Virginia (Google "ICAN Nova") -- their monthly meetings and other resources are an invaluable source of straight-up info.

I had an unmedicated VBAC at VA hospital center last July. My first was a c-section for breech. This time my doctor treated me like any other pregnant mom. I came to the hospital after laboring at home for several hours and required monitoring 20min of every hour (standard in most any birth). He only required continuous monitoring if I got the epidural. I had a birth plan and the L&D nurse was very supportive of it and had had a VBAC herself. I did have a doula also which was really helpful for me. I read a lot and felt very safe about my decision to have a VBAC (suggest reading VBAC Companion). My recovery was much quicker with the VBAC and with a toddler this was really important for me (my c-sect recovery wasn't bad the first time but this was better).

I second the ICAN NOVA meetings. You must check it out if you are considering the VBAC! A great way to find support and information and hear VBAC stories.

Good luck!

I'm bumping this in the hopes that someone can tell me whether any of the doctors at Women to Women, PC will be supportive of a VBAC. I'm going in for my appointment in June to have my IUD removed, and I will ask then. But, I'd really like to be prepared ahead of time to argue my case should they not be supportive. Like one of the PPs, my first c-section was because of breech presentation, and I never even went into labor. They did the c-section 2 weeks before my due date.

Can't speak to your question about Women to Women but I will say that women who have had c-sections because of breech babies have a much higher success rate for VBAC's.
