DCPS working parents: If you don't use after-care, what do you do?

Anonymous
I am researching after-care options for when my child starts at Lafayette and was surprised to learn that CCPC handles only 66 kids from both Lafayette and Murch. What do all the other kids whose parents work do between 3-6:30pm? If you use a nanny, is it still about $15-18 per hour or do you have to pay more for if you only need them 3-4 hours/day? Thanks!

Look for a college student (or two). We pay ours $15/hour plus her share of FICA.

Murch has its own Extended Day program across the street. Some people go there, others go to Jelleff boys & Girls Club (which I guess will move, since they're selling their facility). There are some other after-school programs as well, but I can't remember them now. There are also a lot of afternoon activities at Chevy Chase Rec Center.

DC is supposed to be buying Jelleff. Not sure what that means for Boys and Girls Club programs.

We're on waitlists for Lafayette aftercare and CCPC aftercare. Any chance either of those waitlists will move?
