Petite Teenager with Hourglass Figure

Anonymous
My 14 year old daughter's body has completely changed over the last year. She is short and skinny, but now has an hourglass figure.
Junior clothes seem to be designed for girls with no hips, so they are no longer a good fit. Women's petite clothes are a better fit, but the look is often too mature.
What brands would you recommend for her?

Anthropologie has a pretty good petite selection. Some of the clothing is probably too 20-30 something, but they have some pretty cute pants and tops that will probably work.

Old Navy
Modcloth (online)

Express has good jeans that come in size short.

DD will likely want to focus on clothes from teen stores like American Eagle, H&M, and Forever 21. Her best bet is stretchy separates -- leggings, stretch jeans with a curvy fit, blousy tops, sweaters, knit tunics, etc.

As a person with an hourglass figure, I have to disagree with this. I look for clothes that are tight in the waist. Shirts should not hang below the hips as it creates one long line from the armpits to the bottom of the shirt. Skirts should not be tight or have an A-line.

This is the OP - I just wanted to thank all the PPs for your good suggestions.
I think this type of figure can look great, but it takes a bit of effort to dress in a way that flatters. I would like my DD to feel good about her body as she grows up. Finding clothes that look good on her and also work for her age and personal style is an important part of this.

This was me back in the day. I bought a lot of Free People stuff and, actually Betsey Johnson dresses but they were pricey and that was a looong time ago. I recall the Betsey Johnson dresses being the only ones that were really cut for boobs and a decent-sized rear end, and I was 5'0" (still am) and weighed 100 pounds back then with 32C boobs at 15-16ish. I just took a look though and it doesn't seem like they really have a lot of younger-looking stuff.

I wore a ton of babydoll and fit and flare dresses. I also loved Benetton, but I know that's not really probably in style "for the kids" these days They still have cute stuff, I think - like this: http://us.benetton.com/shop/us_en/woman/dresses/dress-with-tulle-skirt.html or this http://us.benetton.com/shop/us_en/woman/dresses/floral-dress.html or this http://us.benetton.com/shop/us_en/woman/dresses/dress-with-short-sleeves.html. Nowadays, I often find stuff in Anthropologie that fits really well.
