Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| I know they don't technically make a 'diaper bag' but they have some instructions on their website on how to create your own of sorts - I love their bags and I'm wondering if anyone has used one of these for a diaper bag? Thoughts? |
|
I have a friend who uses one - she has the small messenger bag. Works fine for one kid.

I agree! Call me vain, but even though I'm a mom, I don't want to look like the stereotype.
I've always used a large handbag/tote. I'm still not a fan ot Timbuk2, to me it still looks like a diaper bag. I could do without all of the large clips hanging off the front. |
| Mom of now-seven-year-old says: You can use any old bag you want for a diaper bag, really. Go for it. |

I know that I CAN use any bag, just looking for helpful suggestions like 'don't get that one, there aren't enough pockets'.

I use a Timbuk2 Medium Messenger. I had the bag since 2002 so it has already been used and loved.
I had also used a typical diaper bag for the 1st year. (I thought it was stylish - http://www.petuniapicklebottom.com/collections/original/boxybackpacks/kimonoroll/) Pros and cons of typical bag vs. Timbuk2. My diaper bag had a easy zip out changing mat - for the Timbuk2 I would carry a changing mat in the bag. The changing mat section in my diaper bag had pockets. I would put a diaper, wipes and Desitin in these pockets so everything was right there when I unzipped the mat area. For the Timbuk2 bag, I would put all of these in 1 pocket area - but I needed to search for them. Timbuk2 bag does not zip on the top. When you are traveling with child/small toys, sippy cups etc, the bag would sometimes be open and things dump out. The diaper bag I had not only zipped on top, but had a top flap that velcroed. Negatives about my diaper bag - Dry Clean only (what are you thinking? I spilled milk all over it one of my 1st outings). It did not wear well. I wore it as a backpack frequently and it frayed at the point where the back side of the bag met my back. HTH |
| I use a Timbuk2 medium tote bag, Unlike their messenger bag, the tote bag does zip on the top. I didn't like using it as a diaper bag at first b/c it was hard to find what I needed in the bag b/c it doesn't have all the handy compartments of a regular diaper bag. But then we got some clear plastic toiletry bags and now that we can keep things prganized I love using the Timbuk2 tote as a diaper bag. |
| 12:05 here. If you get a folding mat that has a pocket for a diaper, you're good with a Timbuk2. The wide openeing is a plus, I think. |

Timbuk2 user here.
I own a small messenger, medium messenger and medium tote. I am not a fan of the tote bag. I think that for a diaper bag you want something that you do not need to worry about sliding down your arm. For me, the tote messenger style OR backpack style work better. If you are going to go with a tote style bag, I think Timbuk2 is overkill (from a price point). You can get a cute tote that will wear well at 1/2 the price. Not sure what style you are looking for - but I think some of the Gap diaper bags are cute: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=45974&vid=1&pid=571639&scid=571639002 |
| That Gap one is SUPER cute - I never would have thought to look there! Thanks! |
| I had twins and used LeSportsac - super light weight and it lasted for a decade. I put chnaging pads in plastic bags plus used disposable ones. Longchamp alsp has nice light bags. |
