| Has anyone else's child mentioned an increase in negative behaviors at Deal? It seems to be disrupting a lot of classes, and isn't being dealt with. |
| First, classroom management. Bullying only survives with an audience. |
Still have lunch, free periods and hallways, public transit, social media. Not specific to Deal but bullying can and does happen everywhere. |
| How bullying and disruption is dealt with starts from the top. If the new leadership is showing she's not up for the task or wants to put her head in the sand the teachers won't go out on a limb to deal with it either. We have a neighbor who is at Deal and physically attacked. The attacker was allowed to stay at school. |
Deal has a female Principal? Where have I been. |
Deal has neither a female principal nor new leadership. Perhaps this person is thinking of Wilson?? |
Where else would the attacker go? It's a public school. |
| All of these schools.lack substantive character education or SEL programs. Believe me, when I worked at dcps the slogans and posters changed weekly, but discussion of values or ethics was of course outlawed, mediation was flabby and counselors a rare and overworked breed (usually highjacked to run testing). There are real, comprehensive, consistent school atmosphere programs that can infuse administration to the classroom - but they need yo be intentionally adopted. Otherwise you are just relying on what each child brings from home, for better or worse. |
jail. if my kid is attacked then yes, I expect the police to be involved and the kid to be expelled. At a minimum. |
You must be new around here. |
| Increased from what? |
|
Yep.
Just speaking from experience, but there is a kid in my son's grade that came from a charter and is an absolute monster. Just loud, pushy, physically violent, and unable to keep up at grade level. He seriously has mental and emotional issues and despite the fact I have personally brought it up with the teachers. They also are racist. It was heavily implied that the reason they refused to intervene or call the cops (which was 100% appropriate) was because the bully was Black and they didnt want to stir the pot. Luckily DS will be going to a private school for seventh grade where discipline is taken very seriously and such trouble makers would certainly not be able to get in. |
I dont care. A box full of equally mean spirited kids? Jail? Homeschool? Who gives a crap, if your kid wasnt raised right dont hurt my kid over it. |
| bump |
Speaking of racist (and classist)
