Shouldn't DCPS provide the best for Maryland kids? |
Bowser doesn't care. Ellington matters more to her base. Murch, not so much. |
MY fancy upper east side Manahattan private school wasn't that nice. On the plus side, I figured out how solve the city's financial problems. I could easily cut about $50 million in scope out of there and still give them performance space and all that. It just won't look as pretty... wah wah. I'd like to see the council put a nice STOP WORK ORDER on that project. |
Unlikely. At least one council member has a kid at Ellington. Not to mention that Peggy Cooper Cafritz would cut off the council members' genitalia with a serrated knife. |
| Is there not reason for an investigation at they very least and a public accounting for the spending? This feels like developers stealing from DC taxpayers in plain sight. |
There was one by the DC auditor last year. And it found problems, lack of controls. So because of that DGS now has to report to DCPS. |
| $1000 per square foot. That's Trumpesque. |
Ah. Knowing that, I feel better already. |
Agree. The contracts were all let under Mayor Grey. At this point they ahve to finish. I think some of the designs have been scaled back - which is appropriate. As for Mendelsohn's daughter, she is in 10th grade. At this rate she'll never attend a class in the new building. So he may be as angry as anyone. |
Contracts can be cancelled. It's not too late. |
I'm sure the contractors have provisions in there to get paid even if the project is cancelled. The students are commuting daily between 2 campuses - the school needs to be finished and put back together - literally. |
| $200 million and climbing is a pretty sweet deal for a school of 300-some students. |
|
The contractors get paid for their actual costs (well padded, I'm sure). But I bet that's a lot less than the unnecessary scope that's being stolen from other DCPS. Or how about MD and VA kick in some funds to cover their students? About $500,000 per student would do it. |
