APS School Board race

NYT finds connections between the Open Schools parents and the parents' rights anti-LGBTQ set. This is why a lot of people are worried about the leader of the local Open Schools group being on the APS Board.

You are really stretching. There is literally not even a hint of this in her personal statements or campaign materials, etc.

--someone who has actually engaged with her directly and personally and could not be less worried about this as a possibility

Of course she is too smart to put this kind of stuff in her campaign materials or to say it out loud. But she didn't run away from it either, and she embraced those in the group that she led. I was in APE for a little while. People have choices about who to associate with and their choices are telling. I left when I realized who else was in APE with me and that those views were welcomed. It made me very uncomfortable. Miranda, on the other hand, led the group.

Exactly. CHOOSING to partner with these people for years? At best, that shows bad judgment. At worst…

Either way, hard pass.

So you're saying you want a group-think board that only listens to one type of person and sticks to the party line. Got it.

I don't want someone who listens to the hateful anti LGBTQ crowd. All viewpoints are not equal.

+1

I don’t want someone who partners (not just associates) with bullies and RWNJs. For years.

You all are missing the difference between correlation and causation. There is a correlation between wanting school open and some of these more conservative beliefs. But one does not cause the other. Society did a weird split over Covid, with both sides being stupid in different ways. Rs were stupid about vaccines and masks. Ds were stupid about closing schools and society way too long and way past when the evidence supported it. Move on!

I don't think we're missing anything. Who said anything about causation? The entire article is about the CORRELATION between the nutty anti LGBTQ set and the nutty open schools set.

Has APE or Miranda ever taken an anti-LGBTQ stance? Could you link it?

Are you employed? You seem to sit on this board at all hours waiting to express your dislike of MT. We know she's a hard pass for you. You've said it several times.

I think it's very disturbing that you think a NYT article proves that MT is anti-LGBTQ and that she's harboring her right wing views until she's elected. I don't write on this board often, I just want to say that this is very illogical and I'd like to kindly suggest you settle down.

From the article -

One group of people was more likely to oppose teaching about sensitive social issues and want more parental control in schools: people who said schools were closed too long during the pandemic, particularly conservatives.
