Help with finding a nice cabin in Shenandoah Valley

Anonymous
Hello Moms,

Looking for a short gateway with our 6 month baby and our little pug. Any recommendations for pet and children friendly lodging? Would like to stay within 2 1/2 hour drive or so, and not too far into the "wilderness"....close to a city or caverns. Also would be wonderful to find a pool on site...so please, if you've stayed at some place similar, please recommend. Thank you very much!

check out VRBO.com - a few years ago, we got a cabin near Luray with a hot tub and a view, you should be able to find something good on there. Sat in the hot tub outside and saw shooting stars at night, hiked during the day. Fantastic. I think you'll be able to find a hot tub fairly easily, an actual pool will be much harder unless you're at a resort.

There's a great cabin right on the river called "accokeek farm" that allows pets. Google it. It's near Luray.

Sorry to go off-topic a bit, but does anyone know whether Luray Caverns is stroller-friendly? Thanks!

I've stayed at both cabins and they are wonderful. Enjoy!

Just was at Luray Caverns about a month ago with a 3 year old and 10 month old. My husband wore the 10 month old and the 3 year old walked. I saw one person down there with a stroller but I wouldn't really recommend it. You walk down a long flight of stairs to get down into the cavern and I think they have to close the stairs and they have a wheelchair elevator that runs up and down the stairs. That's the only way I can imagine that the stroller got down there. It was a big bulky Graco so I don't think they carried it down.

The three year old loved it but unfortunately about 2/3 of the way through he needed to use the potty. There are no bathroom facilities in the caverns so we had to hurry through the rest, climb the stairs and run to the bathroom. He didn't quite make it... If you have a child around that age bring a change of clothes

We went to Skyland on Skyline drive when our son was 4 months. They have several great cabins to stay in. They are not luxury, but are very comfortable. We stayed in one called Volmer. it has 2 bedrooms, kitchen, living room, fireplace. It's within 10 minute drive to great hiking and a short walk to good hiking (where you can see deer). You can google it to see the photos. There are some nice easy hikes for baby bjorn type stuff. The drive from DC is about 2 hours.
