Hulu

Tell me about Hulu. Is it like Netflix? Are the shows free? And what kind of shows are on? Thanks.

Hulu has some content that you can watch free on a computer, but to use on a phone or tv (via Roku, Apple TV, etc) you have to subscribe to Hulu plus.

They do have movies, original series and old tv shows, and a lot of shows from the UK, but they also have current shows from Fox, NBC, ABC, and some cable networks. They are available the day after they air usually, and it varies how long the shows remain available. These will have commercials.

You can pay a little more to avoid commercials.

It's a good alternative to cable if you have shows you like on those networks.

You can have a basic membership with commercials and higher level membership without commercials and add ons for certain networks like Showtime.

You can watch a lot of prime time, network shows on a slightly delayed schedule of when they air. There's not a ton of crossover with shows that are on Netflix. I find Hulu easier than Netflix or Amazon to search b/c you can search by the date a movie or tv show as added and they have a recently added feature as well.

I've found some good Australian and British shows that I haven't seen on Netflix/Amazon Prime.

Op here. Thanks for the info. So for example, if I want to watch the good wife from season 4 all the way to last episode of season 7, will I be able to?

Ok two more Hulu questions.
One, is it free to get all their shows and movies?
Two, how is their speeds? We had to stop Netflix because it was just too slow.

Most of the content is free and accessible with hulu. If you look online, the shows that have the "subscribe" green box or a "hulu+" requires basic membership: http://www.notebookreview.com/feature/hulu-plus-vs-hulu-why-pay-when-you-can-get-it-for-free/

You can pay a little extra for commercial free. I've never had a problem with Hulu running slow. (When Netflix does you need to clear it out, you'd have to google instructions for whether you're on a pc or mac.)

I think Hulu changed its pricing model last year and dropped the free option.

I think you're right. I've had it for a while now, so I didn't notice.
