Birth control/ which IUD: copper or hormonal?

Anonymous
I am going to have an IUD "installed" next week. I don't know which one to choose. Any advice? Side effects? I am looking for the least possible side effects. Has anybody experienced mood changes, weight gain, etc... with the hormonal (Mirena) one?
Thanks

I had the Mirena and it was great. I had no side effects and didn't get a period the entire time I had it. I have recommended it to so many people. I loved not thinking about birth control. Unlike the pill, the hormones were so minimal, they didn't effect my sex drive.

Basically: Mirena= Awesome!

I agree with PP. I love my mirena! I only wish I could have used this form of birth control before getting pregnant because it is so easy, comfortable and convenient. My OB told me that all the hormones in the mirena are local, so they don't affect things like weight, mood, etc like other forms of birth control.

this is related to women's issues and health. Why be so anal?

I got the copper one because I didn't want anything with hormones (personal choice, esp. b/c family history of problems with hormonal birth control). I am satisfied with it. No weight gain, which was another major concern. It has changed the pattern of AF - lasts longer and I can get a bit crampy/irritable (I never used to have any symptoms at all), but nothing major. Certainly I preferred not having it, but since I need to have something, it is perfectly fine.

I had the copper IUD for seven years before we started TTC. I loved it. I never had a day of problems with it. IUD's are a great form of BC, especially if you might want to have another. I loved it.
