| Someone told me her husband can't travel to Paris for spring break because he is a federal government employee and they are banned from travel to Paris due to security concerns. Is this true? |
| Do you think your friend is a liar? |
|
She could be misinformed.

All I can find online is that there WAS a travel ban right after the attacks in NOvember, but that it was lifted by December of 2015.
It seems strange to me that it would still be in effect. |

Work travel or personal travel? Sometimes someone tries to arrange a business trip that involves embassy resources and the embassy will write back - too much else going on, do your trip at another time.
I think it's highly unlikely for a personal travel ban to Paris right now, but I haven't tried. |

Does he have some sort of Top Secret clearance? I've never heard of not being able to travel to Paris, but there are certainly some places that some employees would not be allowed to visit.
Had a cousin who worked for NSA (linguist). She was not allowed to travel to a certain place for years after she worked there. Not sure if she could now. |

It depends on the nature of the job and the country. My spouse had to get special permission for personal travel to Paris and could not take any electronics (cell phone or computer) into France.
It was a great tech- free vacation. But I was surprised at the red tape. |
| My wife was in Paris a couple of weeks ago. She is a fed. |
| I live 3 hours away in Germany and all is clear with our travel bans. It was closed briefly after the attacks. Many friends and families have traveled there recently as last week and this week. |
We had a ban - don't know if it is lifted yet. |
| There was a ban on travel to Paris for all federal government workers? Or for employees of the Department of Defense? |
|
I would highly doubt it, OP. |
|
Gosh, I think we might need to cancel a lot of trips if that's the case. There are many important meetings and conferences in France.
I think your friend was misinformed or husband just does not want to go. |
Yes, it is looking very much like that! I think her husband just feels it is unsafe still and is telling her there's a ban when what there is is just a state department warning to travelers. |
This. |
