| My DC will start kindergarten the year before the new school at TJ opens. Trying to figure out if our neighborhood school couldl change after K. That could affect whether or not we apply for choice schools. Any news on timing of these decisions? |
Which basically means your kid is 1 years old right now. I think you have bigger fish to fry without pining away over this for the next 3 1/2 years... Very likely no one on this board can answer your questions about this anyway. There have already been several listening sessions about this, you'd be wise to go to one of those to ask your questions. |
| um, actually my son is 3. I attended several community forums during the working group process. I have not attended one of the recent info sessions because they have been held at schools that are not our home school (only Henry, Drew and Oakridge). I should have attended one of those, but I assumed there would be more info on the more seats for students pages and there aren't. Was just wondering if anyone who had been at one of the sessions had heard anything about redistricting. Geez. |
| The process, which includes numerous meetings of those appointed to be on the boundary committee, will begin in 2017. |
| This is part of why we are glad we chose Falls Church City- our kids will never be redistricted. Honestly, that would be very disheartening to me to buy a home and then not have the schools I thought I was buying into. |
Uh, until your schools become too overcrowded and additions aren't enough. Good luck with that. I guess you can do what they did before and carve away sections of your "city." Hope you picked the right street. |
| What neighborhood are you? Which elementary? |
| Randolph but we're in the part of the neighborhood that I think could conceivably be shifted to Drew. |
Ok. We're zoned Randolph as well. I'm not sure what you're thinking... The non Montessori part of Drew is not doing well ( test wise). You would have to choice into Montessori either way. Were you planning to stay at Randolph? |
| We were most likely going to stay at Randolph but would not want to be moved to Drew. Have some time to think about this, but if there's a good chance our child would have to move after K or 1st grade we'd be more likely to try for one of the choice programs (obviously not guaranteed anyway). |
I'm pleasantly surprised you are thinking you'd stick with Randolph. It's a cute little school, but it seems people in the surrounding neighborhood avoid it. Pity. Do you live in Douglas park? I don't think that area will be rezoned. I think some students currently at Hoffman Boston will get moved. |
|
NP here - we live in Alcova Heights. I know there are rumors here that we might be redistricted to the new elem at TJ. Any word on that?
I totally have 3 plus years to pine away!
|
It seems like an obvious choice, but the working group went out of their way to say they want a more diverse school. If that holds true you might not be going to the new school. |
They can have my kid - he's quite the unique snowflake, and photogenic to boot. |
I think they are wanting socio economic diversity. They've got to figure something out for that area. They've created a real mess over there. |
