Preservative Free Flu Shots?

Anonymous
I know it's late, but does anyone know where they have the preservative free flu shots? I have been calling around and can't seem to find anyone who carries it? Are other expectant Moms in their first trimester getting the shot?

Thanks in advance!!

i just got my flu shot last night at the minute clinic in CVS on wisconson ave in bethesda, the one close to NIH-i am 22 wks and didnt ask for the preservative free shot-oops-wonder if that was an oversight? my high risk Ob told me to get the shot and didnt specify it had to be preservative free, hmmmm...nurse giving me the shot didnt bring it up either,...do all prego women need preservative free or just 1st trimester??

I was told not to get a flu shot in the 1st trimester, preservatives or not. My doc told me this is based on the CDC recommendations.

Apparently, the recommendations have recently changed about the 1st trimester because the risks of getting the flu while pregnant "outweigh" the risks of the shot. Being a special educator and having a nephew with autism, I'm probably being unreasonable, but I'm just not comfortable with the shot in general. At the same time, I work in an elementary school so my chances of getting the flu are greater. I figure the preservative free shot is my personal "compromise".

I got mine at my OB's office (Drs. Dickman, Maggid, etc). in Rockville.

I got the preservative free one a few weeks ago at the CVS on Seven Locks in Bethesda/Potomac. I was just out of my 1st trimester, but my OB told me to get it at any time, even if in my first trimester. As far as thimersol-free or not, seems to be a mixed bag with people doing just fine going either way.

I got one at the Giant on Rt. 7 in Falls Church (at Haycock and 7) about two weeks ago. I recommend checking with them and other Giant stores. They offer the shots two days a week, I think Mondays and Fridays, but call to confirm dates and availability of the preservative-free vaccine.

I just got my preservative flu shot today at Kaiser- I'm on the cusp of the 1st & 2nd trimester. my doctor encouraged me to get it asap, especially because i am a teacher and work with kids (easy to pick up the flu virus from them). i had doubts, too, particularly re: how the flu shot MIGHT have a link to autism (it just makes me wary), but also felt that the preservative-free was my compromise like someone else mentioned.

there are two kinds of flu shots: preservative-free and w/preservative. they give pregnant women preservative-free because in one of the preservatives, some level of mercury exists, which some say lead to birth disorders (the CDC has rejected this).
