Sitar Arts Center PreK-4 Summer Arts Program
Early Childhood PreK-4 Sitar Arts Center’s Early Childhood Arts program is grounded in research that underscores the importance of ongoing high-quality educational programming during the ages of 0-5, a critical stage for cognitive, social, and kinesthetic development in children. Early Childhood Arts has been a signature program of Sitar’s for more than a decade, ensuring that children are placed on a path toward success in and beyond the Center while setting them up to be self-advocating learners. This year, the Sitar will offer a half-day ECA program as part of Camp Sitar 2016 that incorporates visual arts, music, movement, and literacy development for Pre-K 4 students. Led by trained early childhood and artist educators and Sitar staff, this program will equip students with school readiness skills in a fun and nurturing environment. Our carefully-designed program is backed by early childhood research and aligned with Sitar’s unique Early Childhood Arts curricular framework. Classes feature storytelling, visual- and performance-based artmaking, and lessons that build upon one another as the course progresses. Sitar’s summer Early Childhood Arts program is designed to reflect the unique position of Pre-K 4 students, who are between early childhood and school-age. The program’s more structured nature – though still retaining the playful and responsive approach of all of Sitar’s Early Childhood Arts classes – is designed to prepare students for learning in a school-based environment. The program is offered Monday through Friday, 9 AM – 12 PM in three sessions: Session 1 (two weeks): June 20th – July 1st Session 2 (two weeks): July 5th – July 15th Session 3 (one week): July 18th – July 22nd Standard class schedule: 9:00 Literacy Development / Storytime 9:15 Music Class 9:45 Break 9:55 Visual Art 10:30 Snack and Outdoor Activities 11:30 Movement 12:00 Dismissal Breakfast is provided each morning from 8:00 am – 8:50 am, and is optional.
