NCS is cutthroat. Do you want that? Some parents do.

No, NCS is not. I have a DD there and one who graduated. Just not true. I cannot say enough good things about NCS. Very supportive school (faculty and classmates). One DD has a best friend at SR and she loves it there too. One difference I hear them discuss is the focus on religion at SR, not so much at NCS. Both love their schools and are thriving.

NCS has a reputation for being filled with nasty back biting girls...
That said, we have a friend whose daughter is graduating this year and her daughter just loves the school--nice girl, great family.
So I suggest you find families who are there...and who are *not* involved with the 'welcome' committees (usually the boosters and cheerleaders with one message)...
Can you ask around?
Also, it depends on the grade ... we all recall from growing up that there's 'that perfect class' and then there's the one that is filled with unkind kids. Luck of the draw.

what would a boys' school be called if they had more than 20% of their graduating class go to Ivy's, 8 Presidential Scholars in one year, numerous math and science awards, excellent athletes that go on to play in college etc, etc? I guess NCS girls get used to the negative sterotypes of successful women early on.

ah, old stereotypes. Got it. Every school has classes like this. You sound awful.

SR parent in the class above. It's a really nice class (2022) and good parents, sweet kids, mix of athletes, musicians, theater kids etc. I don't know NCS very well so I can't comment about that but I think she's be happy at SR. The school is very warm and welcoming and the sports are very good if that's a factor. New AD last year is doing a lot of great stuff with sports. Good choices either way I am thinking but I vote SR.

It would be helpful if posters identified whether they have any direct personal experience with he schools in their post so the rest of us can better evaluate their comments. So far, the positive comments are from people with direct experience and the negative comments are not.

NCS is a more intense, competitive experience. Ask your daughter which she wants.
We have DD's at SR but several close friends DD's at NCS.
NCS is very competitive and driven, parents and kids. SR is more of a mix and they try to tone that down some which we like.
One of our DD's is very bright and would do well anywhere - what she needed was the service and character shaping at SR so she is there.
We know she's a top student already. She's very driven too so I like that SR is slightly toned down otherwise she might need some serious interventions by the end of HS.
The other DD is more just above average and is a bit challenged at SR but likes it fine.

At NCS even the sports teams are very competitive in middle school. Some of the girls switched out sports because they were made fun of at school for not being on the higher level travel team associated with the sport. It's just a bit intense.

We know great girls and families at both schools.

Ask DD what she wants.

That seems about right. My daughter is at NCS and loves it. Everyone is very supportive, but they do take their studies and sports seriously. We only visited SR, so I don't know much about it. It did seem more religious, which may be a plus or a minus for you.

I assume you and your daughter have visited both. They felt pretty different from each other to me. I assume that they would to you and your daughter, too.

Good luck!

I defy anyone to identify a middle/high school that does not have a pack of nasty back biting girls in it.

Indeed, the frequency of this phenomenon makes for great comedic movies.

So true. The biggest bully at our MS ended up at SR this year. I hope she benefits from the strong character education she will get there.
