| Comes out in October. I really liked the book, and Emily Blunt plays Rachel. I am looking forward to this! |
| Longbourn will be a movie in 2017! |
| I'm looking forward to it as well. I hope it works in small town Maine. Its such a London book and I have London in my head when I think about the story (I am a Londoner, by origin). |
| Small town Maine?!? What the hell kind of commuter train is she supposed to be taking there?!? And Emily Blunt is English anyway. I wish they had kept the London setting. |
| Ah ok, just looked it up, it's not small town Maine, it's Westchester (NYC suburbs) and she'll be commuting into NYC. Makes more sense. Still wish it were London though! |
Yes, part of the filming took place in Dobbs Ferry, near my hometown! The metro north station there has been used on other film sets; it's right on the Hudson so it's scenic. |
Yeah, but its not London.
|
I wish they had stuck to London too (
PP, can you drink alcohol on that commuter train? That was a big thing in the book (her cans of gin and tonic!) and so very British. |
Yes, you can drink in public in the UK and on public transport. They SELL alcohol on trains throughout the UK. I once took the 6 hour train from Edinburgh to London with someone who drank whiskey the whole way. And we were in 1st class with table service. It happens especially on the 5pm trains out of London into commuters-ville. |
I think pp meant can you drink on the west Chester to nyc train. |
| I though GOAT (ha) was pretty bad, so I had little interest in the movie to begin with and even less since they are filming it here instead of in the original setting. But I am so jazzed for Longbourn--this is the first I've heard a movie is being made. I loved that book. |
Yes, that's what I was asking, so that it translates from the book. But 2nd pp brings up a good point. It was the culture to have drinks on the 5PM train so Rachel wasn't TOO out of place with her drinking most of the time. I wonder how that will work in the New York setting!? Drinking out of a paper bag? !!

According to this article there was a bar car on Metro North until 2 years ago. http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2014/05/09/bar_car_ends_service_metro_north_discontinues_its_mad_men_era_rolling_saloon.html
That said I know lots of people who drinks with friends (or used to) on the MARC on Fridays. |
Is the same train station that was on "The Affair"? |
Yes! Good catch! |
