Question for Federal hiring managers

Anonymous
Hi,

I have been a contractor at an agency for a few years. I interviewed for 3 positions with people I sort-of know. One department made an offer, but it is a term-hire. The other two are direct-hires, but may or may not materialize.

1. Is there any benefit of being a "term employee" as opposed to a contractor (I need to take a pay cut, even considering the benefits/TSP etc.)

2. If any one of the other two departments offer me a direct-hire, would it be easier for them to hire me if a)I am a contractor, or b) I am a term hire employee

Thanks.

It's impossible to answer this without knowing your contract terms.
