Jeff can you help me with my iPhone app?

One of the free games I downloaded like a year ago has all of a sudden been trying to update for over a day. This morning I tried to just uninstall it (pressed until it shook, then touched the X) but it wouldn't listen to me. It's just sitting there, half black, trying to update itself to no avail. How can I un-install it? I tried to do Update All to help it update itself, but that didn't work either. Ideas?

My excel app was like this for a while, it finally stopped after I updated to the next iOS.

Have you power-cycled the phone?
