Why not simply block the IP of any racist jerk?

In the days of a flick of the finger, why not just do it? Are we talking the same racist jerk might have three cell phones, or thirty? Seems like tons more work to constantly field which comments meet your bar for deletion.

In all honesty, I'm afraid I'm guilty of occasional non-PC opinions. While my comments are "heartfelt and honest," I strive to avoid pandering to "offended" individuals who refuse to tolerate open and truthful discussion of very serious problems. When I share my "unflattering" observations/opinions, rather than responding with opposing observations/thoughts, it's a straightforward cop out to name call me a racist based on blatantly false accusations. When I politely asked that poster to support their false accusations, they responded that my "racist" post had been (conveniently) deleted.

Is it now a breach of DCUM rules to mention possible root causes of a problem, on the same thread that is discussing the problem? How do you hope to allow open, but honest discussion?

Not to be a jerk about this, but I've been moderating this site for almost 10 years. I think I have give this a bit of thought. If it was as easy as you seem to think, don't you think I would be doing it that way? On mobile data networks, devices share IP addresses. Since many of our users are in concentrated areas (e.g. Northwest DC), I don't want to block a bunch of them because of a single user.

In the thread to which you are referring, the race of none of the participants was ever revealed. It would be impossible to discuss root causes linked to race in that instance. That is a simple fact which many of you seemed unable to comprehend.
