Letters and calls about admissions??

Please forgive this naive email. I don't have a child that applied this year but am asking for a friend. When will students learn about admissions decisions from independent schools? Is is this coming weekend or by letter/email early next week on or around the 1st?

Certain schools notify some "special" applicants early, including sibling applicants. DD's first choice school called the lucky ones (not including us) on Monday, as we heard from another parent. So it does happen, it just depends on the school.
