What to expect based on your "Day 2" test before IVF/ Before Starting Gonal F

Anonymous
I just had my "Day 2" test to see whether I could proceed to the stim phase of IVF (high dose Gonal F and Menopur).
Good news: I got the green light to start the IVF process.

My antral follicle count was 14 as a baseline before the stims. What happened to others with this kind of baseline number? How many eggs did you end up retrieving?

Thanks in advance!

I had either 14 or 16 Antral follicles. Retrieved 16, 11 mature.

OP here- have others retrieved the same number of eggs as their pre-Ivf baseline follicle count ?
(Not sure this makes a difference but my count was after 3 days of cetrotide)
Thanks

Just cycled at shady grove: Baseline was 34, 21 retrieved, 10 made it to blast stage. Had a leading follicle though that was pesky (got to 26 mm!) and probably inhibited the others. Hang in there it will be over soon. Eat lots of fiber to help balance out the water retention.

I guess then it would be fair to say that it is hard to determine where things will end up merely looking at the baseline?

yes to your question. I had 11 on baseline day, 25 growing, 12 retreived and only 4 mature. High stims are not always good. Have you had previous cycle failures or any other reason you need to be on high stims?

Just to give you a perspective, my high dose (450/day of GonalF) resulted in fewer total number of matured eggs at retrieval versus medium dose (225/day GonalF) with double the number of matured eggs compared to high dose.
More interestingly, embryos made from medium dose had better grading (looks text book with no fragmentation) than the higher dose.
But these are all individual dependent and you may end up with good number of matured eggs and good looking embryos.

Newbie question: is this thread referring to the testing after BCP but before stims? I've been on BCP since the 20th and have my first monitoring appointment tomorrow before starting stims (hopefully) a few days later. I thought since I am taking BCP to suppress I shouldn't expect to see a high AFC like the 14 OP mentioned?

Thanks in advance for any clarification!

OP, this is a rabbit hole. You result may be nothing like others with the same AFC. Hope for the best but don't get attached to any numbers. And especially don't compare with others.
