PIO needle size

Does it matter what size your PIO injection needle is? I have the option of using either 1 1/2 inch long needle or a 1 inch long needle (both 22 gauge). For obvious reasons I have decided to go with the 1 inch but I'm paranoid that the shorter needle won't get the PIO where it needs to go. Do you think it matters?
