| Some people say it's awful, some say it's fine and their kids did well. Which is it? Is it dangerous? Is it a failing school? Do people in the area do everything they can to not send their kids there (i.e. private for HS) or was that years ago and now it's fine? Thoughts? Opinions? |

I have not heard anything terribly bad about Edison, it seems pretty average.
FWIW, I know a couple of families in Kingstowne that were zoned to Hayfield but pupil placed to Edison. (Smaller, IB program). |
|
It has IB if you want it, Academy classes, and a very nice, recent renovation. It has about 30% FARMS, which is slightly above average for the county now, but not as high as you'd find at some other schools like Lee. Some really nice areas like Clermont and Wilton Woods feed into Edison, as does about 1/2 of Kingstowne. Overall, it's like a more affordable version of Marshall.

| I have a lot of coworkers who live in that area and without exception they all send their kids to Edison. None of them are in private. I believe one pupil placed to Hayfield for AP though. |
| Seems like a nice small (for FFX) high school. It gets a bad rap on this board, but seems fine. |
| I had a close friend who worked in Edison up until about 8 years ago. During that time I worked in a nearby school to Edison. It was every bit as bad as its rap back then. The administration was awful and teacher turnover was astronomical, students were among the poorest in county, and it was considered a place teachers should steer clear of. In the intervening years the demographic of the area has changed, and I don't know anyone at that school anymore. I can only say that it once deserved its rap, but it's possible there has been a change. |
It seems there are slow demographic shifts in that area. Clermont and Kingstowne are solid middle class. Edison did have a really bad rep about ten years ago. |
Can you provide the lyrics to the Edison rap? |
| Anyone there now? Would like to hear what people think about it now? |
What are Academy Classes? |

Is this like vocational school. Would a college bound kid do Academy classes? |
College-bound kids might find Academy courses like Animal Science, Criminal Justice, Teach for Tomorrow, and the Cyber classes to be interesting electives. I guess someone taking a Culinary Arts, Cosmetology or HVAC class might be less likely to be on a four-year college track. |
| We bought our house in the Edison pyramid for the affordability of the area balanced with Edison's reputation. I have heard great things about the whole chain--elementaries, Twain and Edison. I'd pick this area over the western end of the county (Westfield, Chantilly, Oakton, Langley) any day. |
Langley is in the eastern part of the county. And inside the beltway, which many people don't realize. |
