When I was a child in the 80s and 90s this was the go to resort for my family. My husband and I gravitated to the Boardwalk pre kids. Now that we have a son we think we should stay at a monorail resort since we will probably spend the most time at the Magic Kingdom and want to get back for a nap in the afternoon.
Typically we aren't picky about rooms since we hardly ever spend much time there but we will now since we will have our son. Does anyone have any recommendations as to a room location/building to request or any room selection tips? |

If you are in the concierge level, room 1501 is the best. It is right next to the concierge room with all the food, so you can easily slip out and in to bring breakfast, snacks, drinks etc. to your room. You also have a great view of the MK and can see the fireworks from bed. There are speakers along the path outside the buildings that pipe in the fireworks music so you can hear it too - just open the balcony door. (You can see them and hear the music if you aren't in that building if you sit outside, but it is very nice to sit in bed and watch the show.) You also can see the light and boat show on the lagoon (can't remember what it is called) from the room. We never noticed a noise problem with people going to/from the concierge room, but everyone also was pretty zonked at the end of the day.
We ended up in this room by chance during our last trip to Disney (5 years ago) and feel like we could never go back because we'll never have as a good a setup. |
| We just stayed here last year (and the monorail access is key with young kids) and I'd also recommend a room facing the lagoon so you can watch the fireworks at the MK from your balcony. IMO, the boat/music parade is annoying and antiquated, but the fireworks are great to watch from your room if you have young kids and don't want to deal with the crowds in the MK. We stayed in one of the new Vacation Club villas (not the over-water bungalows, just the villas) and our room was huge, had two separate full baths and was perfect for our family of 2 adults/2 kids. I've been going to Disney for 35 years, and we all agreed that the island vibe of the Polynesian, along with the luau and great pool/waterslide really add to the fun of staying there vs. one of the other on-property hotels. Our kids said it was their favorite place to stay in Disney, and we've stayed in mostly all of the Disney resorts over the years. |
| Love the Polynesian, but would avoid the on-the-water villas. They are really close to the transportation center and large noisy boats/ferries go by at close range ALL DAY AND NIGHT UNTIL 11:30PM. |
+52... Could not agree more |
Then stay home. Classic Disney, of course. |
I think your mileage may vary on this one. I love the Electrical Water Pageant. Sure, it's not the newest technology, but it's sweet and simple and nostalgic. I know this wasn't really what you were asking about -- but I had to chime in to provide another perspective. I haven't stayed at Poly, but we visit there frequently to eat at the Kona Cafe or Ohana. The resort has been refurbished recently, so you might look for reviews from people (travel bloggers, etc.) who have stayed there in the past year and liked/disliked specific room locations. |
Thanks! Do you know what building this was in? Speaking of the concierge level, I never did it at Disney but I have at other places. Do you find it to be worth it? |
Thanks! What room type did you book? Themepark view? |
| Contemporary is closer. You can walk. Golden. |
We were in a Deluxe Studio - Lake View. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/polynesian-villas-bungalows/rates-rooms/ |
We're staying here next month! I'd love to hear more about it. |
NP but the Contemporary has a little path that leads from the hotel to the Magic Kingdom, so you can walk instead of taking the monorail. |
True, but if you enjoy a good theme, this isn't the hotel for you. |
| The Polynesian Hotel is one of our favorites! We almost always get club level this past weekend we had room 5304 in the Hawaii building and the view of the castle was amazing! |
