Have you thought about finding a way to flag old threads that people revive?

Like with a color or more prominent time stamp? I don't always look at the date and then get annoyed when I realize a thread that I just replied to is several years old

Yes, I have thought about it. I am working on revising the entire site. It is taking a lot longer than I thought it would, but that is one of the things I'm considering.

I dunno. The date is right next to the subject.

Well, everyone needs to pick their battles. When someone posts a question, you get lots of responses that saying that questions been posted before, search for it don't ask again.

Then, when you search the old threads for the question you have people getting mad you r ed vive an old thread.

This is very true and super annoying.

You don't need to REVIVE the old thread, just read the goddamn thing.

What difference does it make? If someone revives an old thread and people have something new to add, why not just let them do it? It will fall out of recent topics as soon as people get tired of it again. And it seemed like in the past, people put a lot of thought into some of those threads. The date IS right on the top after all.

Thanks and good luck with the site revision!

Sometimes revived threads usually start with 'bumping this thread' instead of starting a new one with the same topic.

If there was a way to indicate a thread has been bumped, one could benefit from old and new information.

A lot of times it's not "new" information. It's a debate that's been discussed and beaten to death. Swimming with Dolphins When Pregnant has been debated ad naseum (for example). No need to bring it back to life.

You can't compare ridiculous threads to informative ones. I frequent the College Forum which does revive threads. If you're discussing Utopia University and want to know about recent DC experiences or need current information/opinion, bumping has advantages vs starting a new thread so those unfamiliar can compare then and now with the old thread.

Again, a comparison with dolphin swimming to a revived thread comparing old/new medications, for example, is no comparison.

I can live with reviving or not reviving. One can always do a search and start a new thread if wanted.

Please include the nanny forum in whatever modification you make. There is a poster who keeps bumping up old anti-parent threads by responding to the last old post.

On the bossy forums my kid used to frequent, this was called a "necro-bump".

I'm over the Kane thread. Can you just nix it?

Jeff I don't know if you've looked at Mumsnet in the uk?

If a thread is past a certain age, there's a cartoon of a zombie in the "quick reply" box and a warning - you are about to answer a zombie thread.

So its a warning, but it doesn't stop people from doing it, if they feel they really absolutely must do it.
